inVia Robotics’ Traffic Quality Index (TQI) algorithm offers several important features to reduce congestion in warehouse aisles, resulting in faster fulfillment cycle times. Three of the most important features include mapping efficient routes, anticipating movements, and dynamically recalculating paths.

TQI is a new feature of the inVia Logic optimization algorithms that map the most efficient pick paths for workers to retrieve ordered goods and batch items based on SKU proximity (limiting the number of trips pickers make to the same aisle). The new algorithm intelligently anticipates the movements required to move goods through the order fulfillment process. When the paths of individual pickers are predicted to overlap and slow down the process, inVia Logic dynamically recalculates those paths to avoid aisle congestion and, ultimately, slowdowns.

Avoiding overlap in the picking process is a core component of how inVia Picker robots are directed to navigate the warehouse, reducing the number of stops and idle time created throughout the day as one robot waits for another to pass by or finish a pick. With TQI, this same technology has been adapted to direct people on warehouse pick paths that avoid overlaps with other workers’ paths. Pickers are able to keep moving quickly.
