The deTec4 Smart Box Detection access protection system secondary packaging machines in end-of-line areas—along with top and side loaders and sorter and ejector modules— can safely differentiate rectangular objects (that are at least 5 inches high).
This includes detecting boxes from people and body parts in conveying systems’ and packaging machines’ inlet and outlet zones. The user-friendly system has a reliable pattern detection logic.
Boxes can be transported continuously as stops—into and out of fenced in machines—aren’t necessary. Since the solution doesn’t require any external process signals or muting sensors, it offers a machine design that’s compact, cost-effective, flexible, maintenance-optimized and able to ensure operators are safe.

The deTec4 Prime electro-sensitive protective safety light curtain by SICK provides reliable protection for multiple machine types in tough environments.
It features a built-in laser alignment aid that saves time when setting up or readjusting the light curtain, a scanning range of 68 feet, and resolution of 1.18 inches. In addition, the device can be cascaded to protect multiple sides of a machine by connecting up to three pairs of light curtains using standard M12 connectors; alternatively, it can be configured with four different M12 system plugs without the need for a computer.
The curtains comply with performance level “e” in accordance with EN ISO 13849, and SIL3 in accordance with IEC 61508.
