Ergonomic industrial furniture manufacturer Treston has acquired the business of its competitor IAC Industries, a manufacturer of technical furniture headquartered in Goodyear, Arizona. The transaction was completed on September 30, 2023.

Treston's ergonomic and modular furniture solutions are widely used in various industrial, technical and laboratory environments, ranging from the electronics industry to heavy industry, encompassing product development, assembly, and intralogistics applications. Their customer base includes both small workshops and internationally renowned companies such as ABB, Sennheiser and Contec, Treston noted.

Treston explained the acquisition underscores its commitment to foster growth and expand its presence in North American markets. With this acquisition, the company added that its U.S. customers will benefit from an expanded portfolio of products and services, enhanced local support, and the agility and efficiency that come with local manufacturing capabilities.

“Our primary goal with this acquisition is to accelerate growth in the North American market,” stated CEO Esa Siljander. “This year, Treston's sales increase due to the acquisition of IAC but more significantly, the acquisition allows us to establish manufacturing capacity for Treston products in the United States, thus addressing the increasing needs for speedy delivery from American customers. Speed will open new doors for us.”

Treston said its sales have shown remarkable growth in recent years. Following the acquisition, the group will employ 325 people, and its revenue will rise to $73.5 million.

“With this purchase, we can offer much better service to vastly larger markets than before. IAC is a respected manufacturer of technical furniture in America, with over 50 years of history in industrial furniture manufacturing,” Siljander added.

Treston places a strong focus on product development, particularly in ergonomic furniture and ergonomic services, as musculoskeletal disorders remain one of the most common reasons for sick leaves in the industry.

Donald Murphy, President of IAC Industries, will continue as General Manager for the newly established Treston IAC, and Arto Utriainen, CFO of Treston, will be relocating to Arizona to oversee the integration during the transition period.
