SPEX Company Profile

Mixed reality headset enhances vision.

Mixed reality headset enhances vision.

SPEX combines several unique technologies into a single, all-day wearable HMD to deliver a superior user experience.

With patented Bioptic Tilt, users can adjust the visor of the SPEX HMD to the precise position that presents the the best view for them of video or data while maintaining their native central and peripheral vision.

This ensures comfort with the device and prevents nausea associated with prolonged use of immersive technologies.

The SPEX high-acuity camera system is second to none in wearable HMDs. The 21.5M pixel HD camera, combined with high-quality lens and automatic focus, produces Super Vision with an acuity of 0.6 arc minutes – better than the human eye.

High-resolution, fast OLED screens and custom optics display images at much higher contrast than AR systems with much better (3x) angular resolution than found in VR headsets. All of this is driven by an open Android architecture running on high-performance Snapdragon processors.

Hands-Free Design

SPEX is a sleek, wearable HMD that allows users to use both hands for important tasks. The hands-free, adjustable Biotic Tilt design presents required information in the most comfortable position, allowing the wearer to use their native vision while performing their work.

Versatile

SPEX is a comprehensive and customizable HMD platform that can replace many other devices (e.g. tablets, laptops, desktops, scanners, cameras, paper manuals) to allow users to better perform their jobs. The SPEX Android based system is open to customization and integration by application developers.

Super Vision

Using built-in zoom, contrast, freeze, auto-focus, flashlight and other features, SPEX can make delicate hard work and sight-related tasks (e.g. surgery, precise assembly, troubleshooting and repairs) much easier to perform. A critical component of this capability the low latency of delivery of video from the SPEX Super Vision camera to its displays.

Mobility Enabled

SPEX is the only HMD that enables mobility without interfering with native and peripheral vision. This is due to the patented SPEX Bioptic Tilt Design. VR headsets cannot be used in mobile application as central and peripheral vision is lost completely to the immersion experience and AR HMDs typically interfere with (and obscure) portions of the real world – particularly peripheral vision due to mechanical design, and central vision with overwritten data or images.
