Rittal Shows How to Achieve the Perfect Climate Inside Your Enclosure

This whitepaper explains the foundation of a perfect climate for the sensitive electronic devices in the enclosure.

Basic Climate Control Principles

A safe and secure environment for sensitive electronic devices is of great importance in every industry and every process. Still, attention is often not paid to having an enclosure with an optimum temperature. And this may create unwanted consequences: An enclosure component that heats up too much may paralyze everything.

High-quality enclosures are essential in every industry. For example, a server enclosure in a data center for a food manufacturer’s production process must be cleanable as well as highly reliable. In every industry, however, the sensitive devices in these enclosures have an ever-increasing power density. This is the trend to satisfy industry demand but it also has a drawback: The more heat that is generated in a smaller area increases the risk of component malfunctions due to overheating.

There are also standards that these systems must meet. One of the requirements relates to the detection of heat. The DIN EN IEC 61439 standard “Low-voltage switch gear and controlgear assemblies” has been in effect since November 1, 2014. Depending on the strength of the current, proof by calculation or testing is required. If such proof has not been provided, liability and insurance problems may arise in extreme cases.
